Many hockey teams use a line chart to show their offensive and defensive alignment. We currently use an Excel file for layout and entering the data. It would be helpful if there was a way for coaches/team managers to create line chart templates and enter their alignment to print or display on the web site for a specific game.
For example: Rangers play Maple Leafs on Feb. 1. On your platform, if you click a game that has not started you are shown the Game Preview tab with head to head info such as G, GA, Skating and Goalie Leaders. You could have another tab or display the info below this with the Line Chart. I have attached a sample of a line chart with basic info. Variations could include the player's photo.
I would recommend a coach/admin have the ability to log on and set up their alignment for a particular game where they can select players from a drop down menu using the position as a filter so forwards can be selected for forward positions, etc. Additional options would allow the coach to restrict the chart to PRIVATE or PUBLIC and allow for a future publish time as well as Power Play and Shorthanded alignments.
For leagues, this could provide teams with an easy and consistent way to display important information for every game that is played. It could also link to the Live Scoring feature as the coaches would have effectively pre-selected their roster for that game reducing the time needed to score the game.

Thanks for the comment Jason. We'll look into the feature and see how it could potentially fit into future roadmaps. While I know that this option doesn't fit all your needs, but we do offer a roster PDF that can be printed out with Jersey, position, and picture of player. This can be accessed on TeamCenter in the Rostering section.

Thanks Jessica,
While that is certainly useful, this line chart would be something that is available to any site visitor once the coach has set his lines for the game. If SE was able to create this feature, it would be at the game level - not something that is set at the top of the team. As hockey lines differ from game to game it would be important to be able to set that at the game level. I believe soccer and lacrosse may also have a similar alignment but not sure if they would use that feature. Let me know if you need additional data if you would like to develop this feature.

Thanks for those additional details. Very helpful.

Just as another example... here's a USA Hockey line chart from today's exhibition game. While much of the data in this instance is from outside SportsEngine, the layout is clean and includes much of the data we would use.
