A model that we've had great success with is making team captains or organizers registering for a tournament or league by initially paying for, say, 10 registrants/participants. So, for instance, registration is $20/player; to start a team the captain/organizer must pay for the first 10 players (paying $200). Then the first 10 participants to register are covered by the captain's down-payment. Then any additional players will have to pay $20 when they register. This ensures a base amount of revenue but also allows for more income from extra registrants. It would also allow for new teams to be added to the drop-down list for other participants in real time.
