Create a Master Venue module Merged

Create a master Venue/ with tags to allow us to better track the use of our home and away venues by not having to recreate the same venue for each team as they schedule there games, most teams play at the same venue.   It would allow us to make a master record that includes all the necessary contact and address information, along with the same Location URL and possible keep a set of notes about the location, Parking, locker rooms, temperature... As a local Hockey association, we travel to the same ice arenas every year, and the many times we go to the same tournaments through out our state.  This would save our team managers time and more likely they would be able to provide more information on the away venues.

As for the Tags, for organizations that manage more than 1 location (field, ice sheet, diamond), it would make sure nothing is either double scheduled or under scheduled.

I know that we are not the only org that would benefit from this feature.

    Agree, but would take this a step further.  We currently use SIPlay (owned by SE), and we are able to create a database of both home and away venues (which are then available to managers to select from a drop-down list when creating schedules).  It keeps uniformity, but more importantly, it allows the club admins to close a venue (due to rain, etc), and the system automatically locates all practices/games scheduled on that field/venue during the closure period (i.e., the rest of that day), and gives the option to (a) cancel all events on that field and (b) send an alert to all parents/coaches scheduled to be on that field that day.  No need to worry if a coach alerts his team to a cancellation, it is done automatically (if admin chooses to do so from the field closure function).  New to SE, but amazed this is not a feature in the system.  How do clubs manage mass cancellations?  Chain emails (and hope that all team managers read and act on those messages in a timely manner?

    100% agree! With multiple teams playing in the same rink (sometimes on the same day) it would be much easier to select from a drop down (or auto fill when typed) so that there's a standard entry rather than multiple team managers adding varying info. (One types just the name, one types address, another adds URL, etc.)

    This list could be something that venue operators submit to SE to be included in a master list. You could maintain a venue page with some basic info (address, phone, fax, email, map) so that any SE customer can select the correct location and info to attach to a game.

    I've also suggested separately that you add a field for "surface" or "field" as many locations have more than one specific playing surface at a large complex. (i.e. - Rink 1, East Field, First Floor Gym)
